Preface

Hello everyone, I’m Evan Lin from the LINE Taiwan Developer Relations team. After more than a year of effort by LINE Developer Relations, I’d like to summarise what the team has accomplished and provide an annual report for the LINE Developer Community Plan.

According to the original Introducing the Developer Relations team article written by LINE Developer Relations, the main goals of this team are clearly defined as follows:

  • External Evangelism – Encouraging people to build attractive and interesting services using LINE’s APIs and SDKs.
  • Internal Evangelism – Tackling the tasks our engineers find difficult to do themselves, improving internal workflows and tooling.
  • Technical Branding & Hiring – Showcasing how fun and exciting it is to work as an engineer at LINE.

The previous article covered External Evangelism. In this post we’ll dive deeper into Internal Evangelism and Technical Branding & Hiring.

Article List

  • Part 1 – External Evangelism
  • Part 2 – Internal Evangelism (this article)
  • Part 3 – Technical Branding & Hiring (link forthcoming)

Internal Evangelism: Helping Engineers Grow and Hone Their Skills

Internal sharing initiatives for LINER (LINE employees) that foster personal development, cross‑team understanding, and smoother collaboration.

1. New Employee Training (Internal OJT)

Why it matters – The pandemic limited travel to the Japanese headquarters, so LINE Developer Relations organized a hands‑on, on‑the‑job training program in Taiwan.
Who attended – New hires, including participants from the LINE TECH FRESH program.
What we covered

  • Company organization & functional divisions
  • Common workplace challenges & best‑practice solutions
  • Group discussions to help newcomers get to know their peers
  • A foosball competition to reinforce teamwork

2. LINE Taiwan Internal Hackathon 2020

LINE encourages autonomous innovation and teamwork, so internal hackathons are held regularly across locations. The 2020 Taiwan edition was the second such event.

  • Theme: “Team up for A+” – motivate colleagues to collaborate on optimizing and creating wow‑worthy products and services.
  • What changed: After strong feedback from the first hackathon, the participation process was revised to welcome more non‑engineering teams.

  • Technical Stars (LINE TECH FRESH) program
  • All internal evangelism activities – (add a central hub link here if available)

These initiatives illustrate how LINE nurtures a culture of continuous learning, cross‑functional collaboration, and fun‑driven teamwork among its LINER community.

Conclusion

This article records the results relevant to internal developers. The next article will cover the outcomes related to technical branding and recruitment. Everyone is welcome to stay tuned.
