Kansas City Public Schools Go “All‑Apple”
Kansas City Public Schools announced that it is becoming an “all‑Apple district.” The district will replace more than 30,000 Windows PCs and Chromebooks with Apple devices over time. As part of this effort, it has acquired more than 4,500 MacBook Neo laptops for students in 8th grade and up. Younger grades will continue to use the district’s existing stock of iPads and MacBook Airs.
Pricing and Discounts
The MacBook Neo, already noted for its low price and strong performance, is offered to education users at $499 for both students and teachers. The bulk purchase likely secured an even deeper discount for Kansas City, highlighting Apple’s aggressive pricing strategy for the education market.
Industry Reaction
Shortly after the Neo’s announcement, Microsoft introduced a discounted software bundle aimed at students. However, the bundle may be less attractive to older students who already have access to software through their schools or universities. Apple’s large‑scale deal could signal a shift toward more aggressive courting of education buyers, especially under the direction of new CEO John Ternus.
