Court Ruling

Federal district court Judge Jorge L. Alonso of the Northern District of Illinois held that the Trump administration violated the First Amendment when it pressured Facebook and Apple to remove ICE‑tracking groups and apps. Judge Alonso granted a preliminary injunction to the plaintiffs:

  • Kassandra Rosado, administrator of the ICE Sightings – Chicagoland Facebook group
  • Kreisau Group, developers of the Eyes Up app

The decision referenced a unanimous Supreme Court ruling from a 2024 case involving the NRA and former New York Department of Financial Services superintendent Maria Vullo. The Court held that the government may not suppress speech based on its viewpoint, stating:
