Johny Srouji set to take broader role as Apple’s chief hardware officer

Alongside today’s announcement that Apple CEO Tim Cook is stepping down, Apple has elevated Johny Srouji. Effective immediately, Srouji is becoming Apple’s chief hardware officer, taking on a broader role overseeing Hardware Engineering.

Role Change

In a press release, Apple explains that John Ternus most recently oversaw the Hardware Engineering team in his role as Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering. Srouji, meanwhile, most recently served as Senior Vice President of Hardware Technologies.

Ternus is now the incoming Apple CEO and will take over from Tim Cook on September 1. Under this change, Srouji will have an expanded role as Apple’s chief hardware officer, overseeing both hardware engineering and technologies.

Background

Srouji joined Apple in 2008 after working in processor development and design at both Intel and IBM.

Finally, Tom Marieb, Apple’s current VP of Product Integrity, will become Apple’s hardware engineering chief and will report to Ternus.
