Release Information
Thick as Thieves, the magical heist game from the stealth veterans at OtherSide Entertainment, will launch on Steam on May 20. The release date was announced alongside a new gameplay trailer during today’s Triple‑i Initiative showcase.
Development Background
OtherSide Entertainment was founded in 2013 by Paul Neurath, a veteran of Thief and System Shock 2. In 2016, Warren Spector, creator of Deus Ex, joined the studio. Their combined experience in the stealth genre provides a solid foundation for Thick as Thieves.
The new trailer reveals the fictional Scottish city of Kilcairn, where magic and technology clash against a backdrop of 1910s music and architecture.
Gameplay Features
At launch, the game will include:
- Two playable thieves
- Two maps
- 16 contracts
- Six unique pieces of gear
- Multiple difficulty settings that alter level layouts
Shift from PvPvE to Solo/Co‑op
Originally presented at The Game Awards in December 2024 as a PvPvE title, the game has pivoted to focus on solo and two‑player co‑op play, removing player‑vs‑player combat. The change was announced on Steam on April 2, 2026:
“As development progressed and the world of Kilcairn has come to life, we found that we were having more fun with solo and co‑op play. So, we’ve taken a decision we feel is right for the game: Thick as Thieves is now focused on two‑player co‑op and single player. This sharpened focus has allowed us to double down on what makes Thick as Thieves truly special — dynamic stealth gameplay.”
Some playtesters expressed disappointment over the removal of PvP, and a developer hinted that “PvPvE may come further down the line.”
Platform Availability
Thick as Thieves was initially announced for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Current news suggests the first release will be on Steam, though details about console versions remain uncertain.
