iPhone 18 Pro Launching Later This Year With These 10 New Features
Source: MacRumors
Rumored Features
Under‑Screen Face ID & Dynamic Island
Initial reports suggested a fully under‑screen Face ID with only a front camera visible in the top‑left corner. The latest rumors indicate that only one Face ID component will be moved under the display, resulting in a smaller Dynamic Island rather than a completely hidden system.
New Color Options
- Dark Cherry – special color for the Pro models
- Light Blue
- Dark Gray
- Silver
The existing Cosmic Orange and Deep Blue colors are expected to be discontinued.
LTPO+ Displays
The Pro models are expected to retain the iPhone 17 Pro design (6.3‑inch and 6.9‑inch sizes with a “plateau” housing three rear cameras) while adopting LTPO+ display technology, which should improve battery life.
Variable Aperture Camera
Both Pro models will feature a 48‑MP Fusion camera with a variable aperture, allowing users to control the amount of light reaching the sensor and offering greater depth‑of‑field control. The practical impact may be limited by the relatively small sensor size typical of smartphones.
A20 Pro Chip
Apple’s next‑generation A20 Pro chip is rumored to use TSMC’s first‑generation 2 nm process (the current A19 Pro uses 3 nm). The new architecture and packaging should deliver noticeable performance and power‑efficiency gains year over year.
C2 Modem & 5G via Satellite
The third‑generation C2 modem is expected to replace the C1X modem found in recent models. It should be up to twice as fast as its predecessor and the most power‑efficient iPhone modem to date. With the C2 modem, the iPhone 18 Pro models may support 5G via satellite for web browsing without Wi‑Fi or cellular connectivity.
N2 Chip
While the iPhone 17 series and iPhone Air use the N1 chip (enabling Wi‑Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread), the iPhone 18 Pro models are expected to upgrade to an N2 chip. Specific improvements have not been disclosed.
Simplified Camera Control Button
Apple is rumored to remove touch sensitivity and haptic feedback from the camera control button, leaving only pressure sensitivity for a more straightforward user experience.
Redesigned Rear Ceramic Shield
The rear Ceramic Shield area for MagSafe is expected to adopt a more frosted, seamless appearance, moving away from the current two‑tone design.
Expected Release Timeline
Apple is anticipated to launch the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and a foldable iPhone in September. A standard iPhone 18, a lower‑end iPhone 18e, and a second‑generation iPhone Air are expected to follow early the next year.
