Overview

Apple is reportedly planning to fix bugs and expand the capabilities of Apple Intelligence with the upcoming releases of iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27. In addition to general improvements, the updates are expected to introduce new AI‑powered photo editing tools that let users modify backgrounds, framing, and more.

New Photo Editing Tools

  • Clean Up – Uses AI to remove unwanted objects from photos. This tool will be part of a broader suite of “Apple Intelligence Tools.”
  • Extend – Expands the background of an image with generative AI.
  • Enhance – Automatically improves lighting, image quality, and other visual aspects.
  • Reframe – Shifts the perspective of a photo after it’s taken, primarily for Apple’s spatial photos.

These tools will build on the existing functionality in the Photos app, which already allows adjustments to saturation, contrast, filters, cropping, and object removal via Clean Up.

Comparison with Competitors

The new features would bring Apple’s photo‑editing capabilities closer to those offered by Google and Samsung. However, both competitors still lead in generating entirely new images. Google’s Magic Editor (launched in 2023) remains the most flexible tool for radically adding to and altering photos.

Other AI Features

  • A new version of Siri powered by Google’s Gemini models.
  • A standalone Siri app.
  • AI‑powered search integrated across Apple’s apps.

Upcoming Announcement

Apple is expected to unveil many of these features during its WWDC keynote on June 8.
