iOS 27 to Let Users Generate Wallpapers and Build Shortcuts With AI

iOS 27 will include a custom wallpaper generator and an option to automatically create shortcuts using AI, reports Bloomberg.

Custom Wallpaper Generator

When choosing a new wallpaper, users will have the option to generate something custom using the Image Playground app. Image Playground is used for generating custom emoji and images that can be used throughout iOS, and it is set to receive an upgrade in iOS 27.

Apple is testing models that produce more lifelike images, so the version of Image Playground used for generating custom wallpapers could differ from the current version.

AI‑Powered Shortcuts

Shortcuts is also getting a major update, allowing users to employ natural language to ask Siri to create a shortcut. Users can tell Siri what they want to accomplish, and the workflow will be generated using AI.

Bloomberg notes that the Shortcuts app will display a prompt reading “What do you want your shortcut to do?” with a text field for a description. Shortcuts created with AI are then automatically installed and immediately available for use.

Currently, shortcut creation is largely manual and has remained out of reach for many casual iPhone users. Adding natural‑language capabilities should make the Shortcuts app more accessible and widely used.

The new Shortcuts features and the wallpaper generation tool will be previewed at the WWDC keynote scheduled for June 8.
