iOS 27 to Add New Apple Intelligence Photo Editing Tools
Source: MacRumors
Apple will add new Apple Intelligence photo‑editing tools to the Photos app in iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27, according to Bloomberg.
On‑device Apple Intelligence will be able to make subtle changes to image quality, positioning, and focus. These capabilities join Clean Up, the only AI editing feature Apple has released so far.
Apple Intelligence Tools in Photos
When editing an image, the Photos app will include an Apple Intelligence Tools section with the following options:
Extend
Generates additional image content beyond the original frame, filling in scenery when the crop is changed. The tool supports expanding the edges of an image using zoom gestures.
Enhance
Uses AI to automatically tweak color, lighting, and other image parameters, similar to the current auto‑editing feature.
Reframe
For spatial photos, Reframe lets users change the perspective of an image after it’s captured.
Note: Apple may delay or scale back Extend and Reframe if the tools are not yet polished. Clean Up, the existing AI tool, still has issues a year and a half after launch—it can remove unwanted objects but isn’t as effective at filling in missing information as competing AI tools from Samsung and Google.
Siri updates are included in the iOS 27 roundup. iOS 27 will be previewed at the WWDC 2026 keynote on June 8, 2026.
