Overview

Insta360 has unveiled the Mic Pro, a new lapel microphone featuring a customizable E‑Ink display. While other companies have been shrinking their transmitters, Insta360 is turning the mic’s size into a design feature.

Lapel mics are now ubiquitous among content creators, often appearing in videos because they’re difficult to conceal while in use. DJI recently announced swappable magnetic covers for its Mic Mini 2 transmitters, allowing users to add colour while retaining the brand’s logo. The Insta360 Mic Pro takes customisation further with an E‑Ink screen that can display any image—words, symbols, or complex photographs—while still showing power and record icons.

Features

Build and Battery

  • Slightly larger than the Mic Air, weighing 19.7 g (without the attachment clip).
  • The clip can be replaced with a magnet, though it requires a bit of effort to detach.
  • Both Insta360 mics offer up to 10 hours of battery life per charge.
  • The Mic Pro includes a fast‑charging storage case for on‑the‑go top‑ups.

Audio Specs

  • 32 GB of onboard memory.
  • Records from standard 24‑bit audio files up to 32‑bit float internal recording.
  • Up to 22.2 hours of 32‑bit stereo audio or 60 hours of 24‑bit mono at 48 kHz.
  • USB‑C ports on the transmitters (a feature missing on the DJI Mic 3).

The Mic Pro’s standout feature remains its E‑Ink display.

How to change the Insta360 Mic Pro’s E‑Ink display

  1. Connect the transmitter to the Insta360 mobile app.
  2. The app shows the current display, battery level, and storage capacity.
  3. Tap “Custom Wallpaper” to choose a preloaded image or upload your own.
  4. After uploading, reposition and zoom the image as needed.
  5. Choose between a detailed rendition or a simplified, block‑colour filter (the detailed option generally looks better).
  6. Apply the custom display. The screen flashes briefly to clear any ghosting, then the image remains until changed—even after the transmitter is turned off.

Your custom wallpapers are saved in the app, allowing easy swapping between Mic Pro units and optional text labels for organization, which can also be displayed on the E‑Ink screen.

Pricing
