Idea Raised For Nicer DRM Panic Screen Integration On Fedora Linux
Source: Slashdot
Proposal Overview
A proposal within the Fedora Linux community suggests improving the kernel’s DRM Panic screen to a more user‑friendly, BSOD‑style experience. Open‑source developer Jose Exposito outlined the idea, which includes:
- Replacing the current DRM Panic display (which only shows the kernel log encoded in a QR code) with a customized Fedora web page.
- Showing the encoded QR contents on that web page, providing a cleaner UI/UX.
- Adding a direct link to the Fedora Bugzilla to make it easier for users to report the error and attach the kernel log automatically.
- Helping upstream developers become aware of recurring panics by simplifying bug reporting.
The concept was introduced as a request for comments on the Fedora mailing list. Although still a prototype, Exposito has already created a basic web interface to demonstrate the solution:
Further discussion and feedback are welcomed from the Fedora community.
