I Joined Google Cloud NEXT ’26 Without Feeling Ready

A few days ago I came across the Google Cloud NEXT ’26 Writing Challenge on DEV Community. At first I thought, “Cloud computing? That’s for the pros, not for me.” But then I realized that many of the things we know come from jumping in before we feel fully prepared, so I decided to take part.

While watching the keynote I saw that the focus isn’t only on building cloud services; it’s also about making developers more productive. From artificial intelligence through Gemini to improved deployments and workflows, the announcements felt practical rather than overly hyped.

In a recent project I spent more time resolving deployment issues than adding new functionality. That reminded me that development isn’t just about writing code—it’s also about understanding how the system works. This challenge felt very personal for me.
