I Built a Tool That Shows Why Your Resume Gets Rejected (And It Hurt to Test It on Mine)

The problem

Most of us don’t actually know why our resume gets rejected.
We guess, tweak, and reapply, but we never really see the gap between what employers are looking for and what our resumes say.

My approach

I did a line‑by‑line comparison between my resume and several job descriptions. The exercise exposed a lot of missing keywords I assumed were obvious, and it was honestly a bit painful.

The tool

I built a small, no‑signup‑required tool that:

  • Compares your resume against a job description
  • Highlights missing keywords and gaps

You can try it here:

What surprised me

When I tested the tool on my own resume, I discovered that I was more qualified than my resume reflected.

Looking for honest feedback

The project is still early and improving. If you try it, I’d love to know:

  • What felt useful
  • Any suggestions for improvement

No hype—just trying to build something actually helpful.
