High Performance Screen Sharing in macOS Sonoma
With the release of macOS Sonoma back in 2023, Apple introduced a new High Performance screen‑sharing mode for the Mac’s native Screen Sharing application. This mode dramatically increases the usefulness of screen sharing:
- Improved responsiveness – lower latency makes remote interactions feel more natural.
- Stereo sound output – audio from the Mac is transmitted in stereo, preserving the original quality.
- Better color fidelity – the video stream retains more accurate colors, which is especially valuable for design work, video editing, and other visual‑intensive tasks.
To enable this mode, open the Screen Sharing app, click the gear icon in the toolbar, and select High Performance from the quality settings dropdown. Once activated, the connection will automatically switch to the optimized pipeline, delivering the enhancements listed above.
