How to cancel Mullvad VPN

This is one of the shortest articles in my series on how to cancel your subscriptions to the best VPNs. Unlike most providers, Mullvad VPN does not automatically renew an expired subscription unless you tell it to. Thanks to its unique pricing approach, cancelling Mullvad is the default option.

When you sign up for Mullvad, you pay for as many months upfront as you want at the constant rate of 5 Euro per month (varying with exchange rates). Each month, Mullvad takes 5 Euro out of your account until there’s nothing left. If you’re no longer satisfied with Mullvad, all you have to do is stop putting money in.

If you originally signed up before the middle of 2022, you may have an auto‑renewal account grandfathered in. Mid‑2022 is when Mullvad stopped auto‑renewing subscriptions and removed PayPal integration, but existing users could keep auto‑renewal enabled. In that case, cancel by signing into your account page, clicking Subscriptions, then selecting Unsubscribe.

How to cancel Mullvad if you subscribed through an app store

iPhone or iPad

1. Open Settings (gray gears icon).
2. Tap your name at the top to open the Apple ID page.
3. Select Subscriptions.
4. Find your Mullvad subscription, tap it, and choose Cancel Subscription.

Android

1. Open the Google Play Store (triangular Google colors icon).
2. Tap the circle with the first letter of your username in the top‑right.
3. Choose Payments & Subscriptions.
4. Locate Mullvad, tap it, and select Cancel Subscription.

How to delete your Mullvad account

If you’re certain you’ll never use Mullvad again, you can request account deletion. Send an email to support@mullvadvpn.net with your account number and ask for the account to be terminated. You’ll receive a confirmation reply.

How to get a refund from Mullvad

Mullvad offers refunds on any purchase within 14 days. To request a refund:

1. Email support@mullvadvpn.net.
2. Include your Mullvad account number and payment token (the charge on your bank statement looks like VPN*1234567890).

Cash payments cannot be refunded, as they are treated as a form of money laundering in Sweden. If you obtained Mullvad via a voucher, request the refund through the store that sold the voucher.
