How AI Flagged Me For Being In Cybersecurity
Source: Dev.to
Background
I planned to make short cybersecurity‑related posts on LinkedIn to grow my network, which is currently quite small. After each daily post, I considered linking to this site or my own website, hoping it would help recruiters bypass ATS/resume filters and see vetted skills instead of a generic resume.
The Issue
Because entry‑level cybersecurity roles require a certain level of privacy, I created the LinkedIn account using a privacy‑focused email address. After making just one harmless post, I was locked out of the account and asked to provide identification.
Why It Happened
- I did not use a VPN, only a privacy email.
- My security settings remained intact, but LinkedIn still flagged the activity.
- The platform is known for spam, scammers, and AI‑generated content, which may have contributed to the false flag.
Current Situation
I am now fully locked out of the LinkedIn account. Support has not been helpful, and I have experienced similar lockouts on other sites in the past.
Next Steps
- I will continue sharing content here and on GitHub.
- I apologize for the rant and plan to publish more posts with real utility.
- Perhaps it’s time to consider creating a new LinkedIn account—or a different solution altogether.
