Playtest Details

The spinoff co‑op action game Horizon Hunters Gathering is holding another playtest from May 22 – May 25. Registration is open via the PlayStation Beta Program, with availability on both PC and PS5. This follows an initial playtest that took place at the end of February (source).

About Horizon Hunters Gathering

Horizon Hunters Gathering is a multiplayer game set in the Horizon universe, developed by Guerrilla Games—the studio behind Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West. The spinoff has been in development for at least four years, as first reported in 2022 (source).

Unlike the original titles, which focus on open‑world exploration, Gathering is an action‑co‑op game that tasks players with hunting down killer machines in a style reminiscent of Monster Hunter. Game director Arjan Bak described the combat as “tactical, reactive, and deeply skill‑based, building on the tactical precision of the Horizon games while embracing the dynamics of team play” (PlayStation Blog).

New Features for This Playtest

Guerrilla has incorporated feedback from the first playtest and added several new elements:

  • Two new playable avatars
  • Cauldron Descent – a multi‑stage trial
  • Breakers’ Bounty – a brand‑new region

Horizon Franchise Outlook

While the third mainline Horizon entry has not been officially announced, reports and rumors suggest it is in active development (Gaming Bible, Twitter source). The next title is expected to arrive around 2028, potentially as a launch title for the next generation console.
