Background

After nearly two years of delays and a $250 million settlement, Apple is preparing to reintroduce the new Siri at WWDC 2026. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has published an early preview with illustrations that show how Apple has redesigned the iPhone’s interface to put a Gemini‑powered AI agent front and center. Gurman notes that Apple often tests multiple designs internally, so the final public version in June could differ, and the new Siri might launch as early as September.

Redesigned Interface

  • Dynamic Island integration – Siri will now live inside the iPhone’s Dynamic Island.
  • Activation – Users can still wake the assistant by saying “Siri” or holding down the power button.
  • Search or Ask swipe – Swiping down from the top‑center of the screen brings up a new “Search or Ask” interface that blends elements from the existing iOS 26 Search UI.
  • Suggestions & rich results – The panel shows Siri Suggestions (a list of eight suggested apps) alongside new elements. Results appear in a rich‑text card that pops out of the Dynamic Island.
  • Chatbot conversation – Swiping further down opens a chatbot‑style conversation inside the Siri app.
  • Multi‑AI support – Apple may allow users to access other AI services such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini through this interface.

Dedicated Siri App & Notification Center

Because Siri now occupies the top‑center area, users will pull down from the top‑left edge to open the Notification Center. Apple will also ship a dedicated Siri app designed to compete with ChatGPT and Claude. The app will support:

  • Voice and text interaction
  • Photo and document uploads
  • Browsable conversation history for continuing previous chats

Integration with Camera and Photos

  • New visual‑intelligence mode – Replaces the existing Visual Intelligence feature, letting users snap a photo and run a Google reverse‑image search or invoke a third‑party AI agent for analysis.
  • Photos tools – New “Reframe” and “Extend” utilities will let users adjust perspective or generate visual elements beyond the original frame using AI.

Smarter Siri Capabilities

Under the hood, Siri will be able to search the web, leverage on‑screen context, and draw on personal information to complete tasks. For example, it can check a user’s availability before scheduling an appointment and detect overlapping events. Apple confirmed that the upcoming Siri will be powered by Google’s Gemini models. However, The Information reported that the Siri demo shown at WWDC 2024 was more of an elaborate concept video than a fully functional implementation.
