Google today officially announced Android 17 Beta 1 for Pixel devices. This joins the stable Android 16 QPR2 release and the winding‑down Android 16 QPR3 Beta.

Search widget changes

  • Updated design and behavior.

Darker location indicator

  • The location status indicator now appears slightly darker for better visibility.

Gemini screen‑shrink animation

  • Previously only available when the Gemini overlay was activated from the power button, the animation is now accessible via a corner swipe.

Compact menu layout

  • Google has reduced vertical height of menu items for a more compact look.

New volume overflow icon

  • The three‑dot overflow has been replaced with a proper settings icon, switching to a waveform when media is playing.

  • Android 17’s internal codename is Cinnamon Bun.
