GPT-5.1 and GPT-5.1‑Codex are now generally available in GitHub Copilot

GPT-5.1 and GPT-5.1‑Codex are generally available to Copilot Enterprise, Copilot Business, Copilot Pro, and Copilot Pro+.

You can now access the models in GitHub Copilot Chat on:

• GitHub.com
• GitHub Mobile
• Visual Studio Code
• Visual Studio
• JetBrains IDEs
• Xcode
• Eclipse

Use the chat model picker (agent, ask, and edit modes). If you do not yet have access, please check again later.

Enabling access

For organizations

Copilot Business and Copilot Enterprise administrators must opt in by enabling the new GPT-5.1 and GPT-5.1‑Codex policies in Copilot settings. Once enabled, users in that organization will see the models in the model picker across all supported IDEs.

For individual plans

• Open the model picker in any supported IDE.
• Select either GPT-5.1 or GPT-5.1‑Codex.
• Confirm the one‑time prompt to enable the model.
