As we previously reported, Google Maps is now rolling out a new gradient icon on Android and iOS.
The new icon is still a pin, but the shape has been modernized. The top ring is noticeably thinner, while the inner circle is significantly larger. Google has removed the diagonal partitions for the four‑color Gemini and AI‑inspired gradient. The icon remains recognizable, though the updated proportions may take some adjustment.
This rollout begins with version 26.09.06.873668274 of Google Maps for Android. Meanwhile, version 26.09.5 brings the updated icon to iOS (App Store link).

In recent months, Google Maps has added several Gemini integrations:
- A conversational navigation experience that replaces Google Assistant, also usable for traffic reporting.
- Gemini integration with Google Lens in Maps (details).
- The “Know before you go” feature on listings (more).
Google Maps now joins Photos, Home, Gemini, and Search with the new gradient icon.
