Overview

Gemini now has a native Mac app, marking the first expansion beyond Android and iOS. The app provides a “native desktop experience” that can be launched with the Option + Space keyboard shortcut. A Gemini spark appears in the menu bar, and a pill‑shaped Ask Gemini bar with Liquid Glass is displayed. The left side includes an Add files and tools panel for uploading Files, Drive, Photos, and NotebookLM, as well as a Share window.

Features

  • Tools bar at the bottom with options to Create image, Create video, Create music, Canvas, Deep research, Guided learning, and Personal Intelligence. The last four items are located under a More tools submenu.
  • To the right, you’ll find a model switcher, voice input, and a button to open the full app.
  • The window mirrors the web interface at gemini.google.com, including the same side panel and Liquid Glass design. All data syncs with your Google Account.
  • The macOS app lets you share anything on your screen with Gemini, including local files.

“If you’re reviewing a complex chart, you can share your window and ask, ‘What are the three biggest takeaways here?’ to get an instant summary. This brings powerful context to your creative work as well.”

“Whether you’re drafting a market report and need to verify a date or building a budget in a spreadsheet and need the right formula, you can get an answer and get right back to work. Creatives can also quickly generate images with Nano Banana or videos with Veo to bring an idea to life without breaking their creative stride.”

Availability

The Gemini app is available for macOS 15 and up worldwide. You can download it for free from the official site:

Google notes that this “first release is just the beginning.” The company is building the foundation for a truly personal, proactive, and powerful desktop assistant, with more updates expected in the coming months.
