Google Search has bet pretty big on AI experiences, and as it refines the formula, changes continue to roll out. The latest update makes source links more prominent in AI Overviews and AI Mode.
Robby Stein, VP of Google Search, announced on X (Twitter) that groups of links now appear in a pop‑up when you hover over them on desktop, showing more descriptive previews and larger link icons.
Stein:
“In AI Overviews and AI Mode, groups of links will automatically appear in a pop‑up as you hover over them on desktop, so you can jump right into a website to learn more. And we’ll show more descriptive and prominent link icons within the response across both desktop and mobile.”
Google says the new UI is “more engaging” and “makes it easier” to access content from around the web.

Since the shift to AI‑generated summaries, Google Search has faced criticism for “burying” links to the broader web, so any change that highlights and simplifies link access is welcome.
