New pre‑defined voice assistant actions

Google Home’s automation editor now includes a Pre‑defined voice assistant actions option (under the Devices action type for smart speakers and displays). The available actions are:

  • Announce current time
  • Announce today’s weather
  • Ask what time to set an alarm
  • Play chime
  • Play music
  • Play news
  • Play podcast
  • Play radio
  • Play sleep sounds
  • Tell a joke

These actions are not yet supported when using Ask Home or Help me create, but you can still use the Ask Google action for custom commands. Google notes that it is “continuing to expand support for home automation capabilities.”

Delete pre‑made routines

You can now delete built‑in routines such as Good morning, Bedtime, and Workday. This frees up space to view all of your custom automations. To remove a routine, tap the trash icon in the top‑right corner or use the overflow menu.

New automation feedback method

From the Automation tab, tap and hold a specific automation to open the feedback menu. The menu lets you select the issues you encountered and provide additional information. This feedback mechanism is rolling out to help improve automation reliability.

Continuous video clip downloads

A foundational fix improves support for continuous video clip downloads of up to 5 minutes on home.google.com. The update ensures long‑form clips remain uninterrupted and can span multiple overlapping short event clips.
