Recent updates to Google Home have delivered a handy new feature for Nest Cam owners: Live Search. The feature lets you ask questions and get answers based on Google’s AI watching your home in real‑time.
Rolling out alongside a slew of other smart‑home updates, Google Home “Live Search” can constantly monitor your camera feeds. With a quick question, you receive answers based on that real‑time data.
Google explains the feature — for users subscribed to the advanced plan of Google Home Premium, you can now “Live Search” your camera streams to understand the current state of your home. Previously, searching cameras was limited to past events. Source
With Google Home’s latest app update (4.10.57 for Android) widely available, the feature can be tried in action through the usual “Ask Home” search bar. Gemini scans all live video feeds to answer your query.
Examples
- Asking “Where are the dogs right now?” returned that they were in the living room on the couch (one dog on the couch, the other elsewhere in the room).
- Querying “Is the oven on?” prompted Gemini to respond that it couldn’t check based on the camera view alone, which is the correct response.
- Asking “Is there anyone outside my house?” caused Gemini to pull up relevant clips from the past couple of hours in addition to reporting the current conditions.

While manually parsing camera feeds will likely still be faster for most users, Live Search could be useful for homes with many cameras or for specific questions, as it integrates both real‑time footage and past events.
Google Home has rolled this out to Premium subscribers with Nest cameras via the latest app update.
