Overview
During Google I/O 2026, Google announced Gemini for Science, a collection of experimental AI‑powered tools designed to help researchers generate hypotheses, conduct testing, and understand scientific literature.
Features
Hypothesis Generation
The tool scans millions of scientific papers to suggest theories or challenges. Generated claims are “deeply verified and supported by clickable citations” for rigorous validation.
Computational Discovery
Described as an “agentic search engine,” this feature can generate thousands of tests and experiments far faster than manual methods, allowing researchers to put hypotheses to the test efficiently.
Literature Insights
An AI‑powered chat that examines scientific literature and produces more digestible outputs such as reports, infographics, or audio and video overviews.
Science Skills
As part of Gemini for Science, Google is also launching Science Skills, which can pull insights from more than 30 major life‑science databases and tools, enabling complex, often manual workflows to be completed in minutes rather than hours.
Access
Google is gradually opening access to these experimental tools. Interested users can request access via the Google Labs website. The tools will also be available to enterprise organizations through Google Cloud.
