Google Chrome makes it easier to wrangle different tabs in AI Mode

Overview
Google Chrome is rolling out an update to AI Mode for users in the United States, enhancing the tool’s ability to interact with and understand tabs.
Side‑by‑side interface
When you use AI Mode on Chrome for desktop and click a link, the chatbot opens a new side‑by‑side interface. This lets you browse the new webpage while continuing to ask questions of AI Mode. The connection preserves the context of the original search that led you to the site.
Example: If you’re researching coffee makers and AI Mode presents several models, you can click a manufacturer’s site and ask the chatbot follow‑up questions like “how easy is this to clean?” The expanded context window means you don’t need to repeat the model name.
Using existing tabs
You can now have AI Mode factor in an existing tab or a group of tabs for a new search:
- Open the redesigned Plus menu.
- Click the new option to include current tabs.
While in the Plus menu, you can also prompt AI Mode to consider additional materials—such as images and PDFs—alongside any relevant tabs.
User feedback and future rollout
In testing, Google reported that users experienced fewer tab switches and found it easier to stay focused. Mike Torres, vice‑president of product for Chrome, said the features are part of a broader effort to bring practical AI capabilities to the browser. He added that the updates will soon be expanded to more regions worldwide.
