TL;DR
- Personal Intelligence launched earlier this year, giving Gemini a holistic look at your digital life across Google products.
- Google is now expanding access to Personal Intelligence globally, with the key exception of European markets.
- The company also teases that Personal Intelligence for free Gemini users globally will be here “in the next few weeks.”
Personal Intelligence: A Holistic AI Assistant
Our modern AI era has made many big promises, but one with the most potential to be truly impactful is the availability of AI agents that understand us on a holistic level. At the start of the year, Google announced Personal Intelligence for Gemini, designed to solve problems by leveraging broad contextual knowledge of our digital lives.
Personal Intelligence taps into Gmail, Photos, YouTube, and Search, analyzing usage history and content you’ve already shared to find the most appropriate data for your queries. In a demo video, Google shows how Personal Intelligence can answer questions about tires for your vehicle by identifying the make and model and considering your travel needs. The system pulls data from sources such as pictures stored in Google Photos. When it can’t find the needed context on its own, it can ask you to fill in the blanks.
Global Expansion
Initially, access to Personal Intelligence was limited to paid AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers in the US. Google announced plans to expand to more regions, and that rollout is now underway.
Google is flipping the switch on Personal Intelligence for users worldwide—excluding the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the UK. In addition to Pro and Ultra, access is now available through the more affordable AI Plus plan. The feature works across all supported Gemini languages.
Free Users
Even better, Personal Intelligence is coming to users who aren’t paying for a Google AI plan. After a recent rollout to free users in the US (see announcement), Google plans to extend the feature to free accounts globally. While no exact date is set, Google says a broader rollout to free users is expected “in the next few weeks.”
If you haven’t tried it yet, you can soon see what Personal Intelligence can do to enhance your Gemini experience. Learn more about using the feature in the guide “How to Use Gemini Personal Intelligence.”
