TL;DR

  • Docs, Drive, Sheets, and Slides are all getting new Gemini‑powered drafting, editing, and feedback tools.
  • Users can treat old documents as templates for quickly creating new versions with the same style.
  • Access starts in beta for Google AI Ultra and Pro paid users.

Gemini in Docs

Google is adding a feature that lets you point Gemini to an existing document for content or structure when drafting something new. You can also select “Match doc format” to use an old doc as a template.

After you have a draft, you can highlight passages and describe tonal tweaks you’d like Gemini to apply, letting the AI refine the text for you.

Gemini in Sheets

Gemini in Sheets aims to make spreadsheet creation hands‑off:

  • Describe the information you need, and Gemini will set up the sheet for you.
  • It can pull data from the web to populate fields, reducing copy‑and‑paste.
  • Gemini shows the sources of the data, so you can verify quality.

Gemini in Slides

In Slides, Gemini gains awareness of other slides when you create or edit new ones, helping maintain a consistent tone and appearance. Google hints at future capabilities that will let you generate entire decks from a simple prompt.

Gemini in Drive

Drive now includes AI Overviews, similar to Gmail’s AI search feature. You can:

  • Crawl through your files and ask questions based on their contents.
  • Select specific files and use “Ask Gemini in Drive” for targeted responses—useful, for example, when reviewing tax documents.

Availability

The upgrades are currently in beta for AI Ultra and Pro subscribers. Google suggests they may roll out to a broader audience in the coming months.
