Gemini integration in Google Workspace

Google has integrated Gemini into its Workspace apps, adding new AI‑driven features for Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides. According to the company, these updates aim to streamline document creation, editing, and data analysis by allowing Gemini to generate drafts, stylize slides, and pull context from across a user’s Google account. All Gemini suggestions remain private until the user approves them for use.

Google Docs enhancements

When you create a new Google Doc, a set of AI‑powered tools appears at the top of the page. The updated system places an AI editing interface at the bottom of a fresh document, resembling a typical chatbot window. Users can describe the desired document and receive a first draft instantly. The generation process can incorporate content from Gmail, other documents, Google Chat, and the web.

Additional editing capabilities include:

  • Prompt‑based reformatting and content changes.
  • Highlight‑and‑edit functionality for specific sections.
  • AI‑assisted style matching to maintain consistent formatting when multiple collaborators edit the same text.

Google Sheets enhancements

Sheets now features an upgraded Gemini assistant that can generate spreadsheets based on user prompts entered in a sidebar. The AI can:

  • Create new sheets using specified data sources.
  • Fill in missing data by searching the web.
  • Perform tasks ranging from basic data entry to complex analysis.

Google claims the revamp improves Gemini’s ability to handle spreadsheet layouts and data manipulation, bringing its performance closer to that of human users.
