Galaxy Z TriFold seeing early reports of seemingly rare, yet scary, dead displays

Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold is a very limited release, with new units reportedly on the way as demand increases. Some early owners are already reporting dead‑display issues, though the problem does not appear to be widespread.
Reports of dead displays
Reddit users have shared screenshots of defective units (via Android Headlines). In both cases the internal display stopped responding.
-
In the first Reddit post, the user notes that after about a month of use the internal screen went completely black. A hard reboot provided only temporary relief, and the issue persisted.
-
The second post describes a phone that began registering phantom touches, showing only a white screen. The device appeared powered but lacked proper display connections, and the user reported hearing a popping noise when opening and closing the phone.
Earlier display issues
This isn’t the first time the TriFold’s screen has malfunctioned. A previous report showed a visible line of broken pixels running down the left side of the display (9to5Google article).
Impact and outlook
Both devices in the reports appeared well‑cared for, suggesting that the failures are not due to user mishandling. Owners will likely need to pursue warranty repairs or replacements.
The good news is that these display faults seem to be uncommon. Early‑generation folding phones have historically experienced similar “growing‑pain” issues, and Samsung has typically addressed them through warranty service. If more reports emerge and form a clear trend, the problem could indicate a larger hardware concern.
Would this stop you from buying a Galaxy Z TriFold, or is the $2,899 price tag the bigger hurdle? Let us know in the comments, or join the discussion in 9to5Google’s forum.
