According to a new leak, Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 8 will reportedly be a bit lighter and improve on its display crease, but it sounds like an underwhelming upgrade overall.

Leaker Lanzuk (translated) says the Galaxy Z Flip 8 will see a few key changes, mostly thanks to a new hinge. This updated hinge design will reduce the phone’s weight from the Galaxy Z Flip 7’s 188 g down to 180 g. Samsung was already beating its main competitor, Motorola, by a considerable margin on weight, and it’s nice to see the company pushing forward with improvements in this regard. Galaxy Z Flip 8 was previously also said to be thinner than its predecessor.

The leak also mentions that the “horizontal length” of the phone will shrink “very slightly,” which is assumed to refer to the thickness of the device rather than its width when in portrait orientation. Previously leaked dimensions put the Flip 8 at 166.8 × 75.4 × 6.6 mm, which is actually a bit wider but 0.5 mm thinner when folded.

More interesting is the mention of a “crease‑free design structure,” suggesting Samsung is working to improve the display crease this time around.

Meanwhile, the leak reiterates what we already knew – the rest of the Galaxy Z Flip 8 sounds boring and stagnant. The battery, charging speeds, cameras, and “everything else” are unchanged. And, thanks to “RAMageddon,” the price might still go up.

Galaxy Z Flip 8 is expected to launch in July alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Samsung’s “Wide” foldable.
