Overview
Google is expanding Fitbit’s AI features, and the latest update puts a spotlight on cardio fitness. The company is now highlighting VO₂ Max insights as part of a broader public preview of its AI‑powered health coach.
Personal Health Coach Expansion
The Personal Health Coach in the Fitbit app is now powered by Gemini. After an initial limited preview, it is being rolled out to 37 countries and 32 languages, as announced in Google’s blog post.
The rollout includes nations such as Austria, Belgium, Brazil, India, Japan, South Korea, Spain, and many others across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. New language support—like Hindi, German, and Japanese—lets users converse with the coach in their native tongue instead of relying on preset prompts.
VO₂ Max Integration
Previously, Fitbit measured cardio fitness with a “Cardio Fitness Score,” but it was not a central feature. In this public preview, VO₂ Max—the metric that quantifies how efficiently the body uses oxygen during exercise—is fully integrated into the AI coaching experience.
How the Coach Helps
- Explain VO₂ Max: Users can ask the coach what their VO₂ Max value means and whether it’s improving.
- Contextual Feedback: The coach interprets the number, places it in context, and links it to daily habits.
- Actionable Advice: If VO₂ Max drops, the coach might suggest missed workouts or insufficient recovery. If it rises, the coach highlights contributing factors, giving clear feedback instead of leaving users guessing.
By turning raw data into understandable insights, the AI health coach aims to make cardio fitness more transparent and actionable for Fitbit users.
