TL;DR

  • Contrary to reports circulating online, ANBERNIC hasn’t downgraded the RG34XXSP handheld.
  • The company has confirmed to Android Authority that it still ships with 1 GB of RAM.
  • Devices that arrive with 512 MB of RAM are likely the result of an accidental mix‑up; affected users should contact ANBERNIC’s after‑sales service.

Background

A Reddit post by user Pixogen claimed that their ANBERNIC RG34XXSP handheld did not contain the advertised 1 GB of RAM. A teardown of the device revealed only 512 MB of memory.

The RG34XXSP originally launched with 2 GB of RAM last year. It was later quietly downgraded to 1 GB of RAM due to component shortages. The recent reports of a further downgrade raised concerns about the consistency of the product.

ANBERNIC’s Response

We reached out to ANBERNIC for clarification. The company provided Android Authority with the following statement:

“The standard capacity is 1 GB. If a 512 MB model is received, please contact our after‑sale customer service. This should be an accident (I have already reported it to our production department).”

Implications for Users

Installing a 512 MB RAM chip instead of the intended 1 GB is an unusual manufacturing error. When the handheld was first reduced to 1 GB, ANBERNIC assured users that the change would not affect usability, especially for classic Game Boy Advance titles.

However, some users have reported issues when installing MuOS and KNULLI to run ported games. These problems appear to be linked to the reduced RAM capacity, as discussed in a Reddit thread.

If you receive a unit with 512 MB of RAM, ANBERNIC advises contacting their after‑sales support for a replacement or repair.
