Control: Ultimate Edition is out for the iPhone and iPad
Source: Engadget
Overview
Control is one of the standout adventure games of the last decade, offering a mind‑bending journey through an ever‑changing building where telekinesis is used to battle bizarre enemies. The graphically demanding original, released in 2019, has now been brought to iPhone and iPad as Control: Ultimate Edition for $5. It is a universal purchase, so a single license works on iPad, iPhone, and Mac.
Remedy Entertainment rebuilt the UI and controls for touchscreens, tweaking aiming and puzzles for better iPad and iPhone play. The game also supports external controllers, which is recommended for the best experience.
System Requirements
- iPhone: Requires at least an A17 Pro chip (iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max, iPhone 16 series, iPhone 17 series).
- iPad: Any iPad with an M‑series chip or the A17 Pro. The current basic iPad with an A16 processor is not supported. iPad Air and iPad Pro models from the last four years are compatible.
Performance
Testing on an iPad Air with the M4 chip showed smooth gameplay. The main drawback observed was the sprint mechanic: on iOS, the L3 button must be held down continuously while running, unlike the tap‑once behavior on other platforms. Performance on older hardware (pre‑M4) has not been verified.
Industry Context
Control: Ultimate Edition joins a growing list of AAA titles arriving on Apple’s mobile platforms. Recent ports include multiple Resident Evil games, Death Stranding, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, and demanding PC titles such as Cyberpunk 2077 and Lies of P on macOS. While Apple devices are still not the primary launch platform for most high‑budget games, the increasing presence of such titles complements the abundant indie offerings and broadens the gaming options for Apple users.
