Overview

Windrose was a hit at the recent Steam Next Fest, with more than 850 000 people checking out the demo and over 1.5 million wishlisting the pirate survival‑adventure title on Steam. The developer, Windrose Crew, announced an early‑access release for Windows on Steam, the Epic Games Store, and Stove on April 14 for $30.

Gameplay

  • Exploration: Sail the high seas solo or with friends in a procedurally generated world that includes over 90 handcrafted points of interest such as dungeons, temples, and shipwrecks.
  • Combat: Share command of your vessel’s weapons to take down rival ships, then board them for close‑quarters combat. Weapons include swords, muskets, and a variety of other gear.
  • Activities: Farming, fishing, crafting, trading, a reputation system, and base building are all available. Players can also hire NPC crew members.

Early‑Access Roadmap

  • Duration: Expected to remain in early access for 1.5–2.5 years.
  • Content Expansion: Plan to add roughly 50 % more content, including new biomes (the early‑access version launches with three), additional enemies, ships, and gear.
  • Story Length: The main story is projected to take 50–70 hours to complete.

Comparison

Windrose offers a grittier alternative to titles like Sea of Thieves and Skull and Bones, focusing on cooperative piracy with friends.

Demo

The demo remains available on all three PC platforms (Steam, Epic Games Store, Stove) for players who want to try the game before purchasing.
