Lawsuit Overview
CNN has filed a lawsuit against Perplexity, alleging that the startup’s AI tools generate “verbatim” copies of CNN’s work. The complaint, filed in a New York court on Thursday, also claims that Perplexity provides users with information that is locked behind CNN’s subscription paywall.
Allegations
- Perplexity’s AI “answer” engine and its AI browser, Comet, are accused of ignoring CNN’s efforts to recognize or block Perplexity’s unidentified crawlers that scrape CNN content.
- The lawsuit states: “Human beings report, research, write, edit, and create the content that Perplexity takes without permission or compensation.”
