To comply with the Mobile Software Competition Act (MSCA), Apple is introducing changes to iOS that create new options for developers’ apps in Japan. Beginning with iOS 26.2, developers can:
- Distribute apps on alternative app marketplaces
- Operate alternative app marketplaces
- Process app payments for apps distributed through alternative app marketplaces
- Provide alternative in‑app purchase (IAP) options for apps distributed through alternative app marketplaces
These changes are part of Apple’s ongoing effort to support a competitive ecosystem while maintaining user safety and privacy. The new capabilities will be available to developers who meet the eligibility criteria outlined in the MSCA and Apple’s App Store Review Guidelines.
Developers interested in taking advantage of these new options should review the updated documentation and ensure their apps comply with all relevant regulations and Apple policies.
