Source: Dev.to

✨ Features

  • 📊 Live word, character, sentence & line count
  • 🔍 Keyword density calculation
  • Estimated reading time (200 WPM)
  • 📂 Open & save.txt files
  • 🌙 Light / Dark mode toggle
  • 🧹 Clear text with confirmation
  • ❓ Built‑in help dialog
  • 💻 Fully offline & cross‑platform

🧰 Tech Stack

  • Python 3
  • Tkinter (GUI)
  • ttk (themed widgets)
  • sv‑ttk (modern light/dark themes)
  • threading (non‑blocking updates)

📦 Requirements

Only one external dependency is needed:

pip install sv-ttk

🏗️ App Architecture

The app is split into logical sections:

  1. Helpers – status updates & resource paths
  2. Core Logic – text analysis & keyword density
  3. UI Sections – text input, statistics, actions
  4. Theme Engine – light/dark mode switching
  5. File Operations – open, save, clear

This keeps the code readable and extensible.

🧠 How Text Analysis Works

MetricMethod
Wordssplit()
Characterslen(text)
Characters (no spaces)Remove spaces & newlines, then len()
SentencesCount occurrences of ., !, ?
Reading timewords / 200 WPM (rounded, minimum 1 min)
Keyword density(keyword occurrences / total words) * 100

All updates happen live as you type.

🚀 Ideas for Extensions

  • Export statistics to CSV
  • Highlight keyword occurrences
  • Live readability score
  • Package as .exe with PyInstaller
  • Add drag‑and‑drop file loading

🧠 Final Thoughts

Tkinter doesn’t have to look dated. With ttk + sv‑ttk, you can build modern, useful desktop tools entirely in Python — fast.

If you enjoyed this, feel free to:

  • Fork it
  • Extend it
  • Turn it into a packaged desktop app

Happy building! 🛠️
