Introduction
Hi, my name is Yendy and this is my opening post!
After a long hiatus I have returned to the world of programming. But not without a torch and spear in my hand. Having been a developer for many years, I’ve seen a lot. From my early days in “skiddie” circles and the Network Chuck Discord server, to running teams of devs through online group projects, I have been everywhere.
However, these past two years hit hard. I developed a moderate case of FND, which affected my memory, and put me out for a while. My performance tanked, I lost my job, and I dropped my projects. Thus I was put on a different life track.
Having time to reflect lately, I’ve come to a very long and hard conclusion. The software community isn’t ready for the years to come. A community once filled with life, pursuit, and passion has become somewhat of a downer. I see Discord servers with hundreds of members sitting dormant, awaiting the owner to delete them. I see dev portfolios becoming advertisements of AI engagement and bloated frameworks. And finally, I see those who used to be engaged in a growing and innovative community falling into the same black hole that all other industry has fallen to: enterprise.
Profit‑driven development and AI tooling have shattered the face of the craft. What’s risen out of the debris is a fractured, super‑glued, faux version of what used to be a truly innovative field. I fear devs will lose their passion if we do not reform the industry.
Thus, I offer to stand up for my craft, and the craft of many other high‑quality people. I’ve formed a group of devs, closely knit together, who are driven by what we are creating and trusting that it will bring us good.
