According to Deadline, Jeff Daniels will join The Morning Show’s fifth season to play “a self‑made billionaire and founder of a well‑known investment firm.”
The role marks Daniels’ third Apple TV project, after appearing in the currently airing third season of Shrinking, and narrating the 2021 documentary 9/11: Inside the President’s War Room.
Although he isn’t playing a news anchor, Daniels’ casting in The Morning Show is interesting, as it recalls his role in Aaron Sorkin’s The Newsroom, where his portrayal of lead anchor Will McAvoy earned him an Emmy.
Daniels joins an already star‑studded cast that includes Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston, Nicole Beharie, Nestor Carbonell, Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, Jon Hamm, and Karen Pittman.
The Morning Show wrapped its fourth season last November, and Apple has yet to confirm a return date for season 5. When asked by The Hollywood Reporter if there was a change to a 2026 premiere, showrunner Charlotte Stoudt said:
“I think so. I haven’t spoken to Apple about any release dates, but between season three and four there was a writers strike, so that was quite a long delay. So without that this year, maybe we’ll move a little more quickly. That’s when I knock on wood!”
