App Store Billings Overview

Apple announced that its App Store facilitated over $1.4 trillion in developer billings and sales in 2025, up from the $1.3 trillion reported the previous year. This figure includes all business conducted through apps on Apple’s platform and highlights the financial opportunities available to mobile developers beyond in‑app purchases.

As Apple noted, 90 % of the $1.4 trillion involved transactions where developers did not pay any commissions.

Breakdown of Sales

  • Physical goods and services: $1.1 trillion
  • Digital goods: $149 billion (commissioned at 15 %–30 % depending on transaction type and business size), up from $131 billion the year before.

Advertising Revenue

In‑app revenue from ads reached $151 billion in 2025, a slight increase from $150 billion in 2024.

User Reach

The App Store saw over 850 million average weekly users across 175 countries and regions in 2025.

AI Apps

Apple highlighted that 40 of the top 100 apps in 2025 featured consumer‑facing AI capabilities, and these AI‑enabled apps experienced stronger billing growth than the rest of the top‑100 list. This may foreshadow upcoming WWDC announcements about AI agents on the App Store, as has been rumored.

Regional Growth

  • China: Billings and sales have more than doubled over the past six years.
  • United States & Europe: Billings and sales have more than tripled in the same period.

Most of this growth is driven by physical goods and services such as retail, grocery delivery, ride‑hailing, travel, and more.
