Apple reportedly has a lot of changes planned for the Camera app

Overview

iOS 27 could completely overhaul the iPhone’s Camera app, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports. The changes aim to make the app more customizable and give pro and hobbyist users greater control over image output. These camera updates will join other features Apple is expected to highlight at WWDC 2026, such as performance improvements and AI details.

Camera App Customization

• Widget‑based interface – While the default UI will remain familiar, users will be able to add, remove, or swap individual widgets (resolution, flash, Live Photos, etc.) from a new “Add Widgets” tray.
• Advanced controls – New options for depth‑of‑field, exposure, and Apple’s Photo Styles will be available.
• Grid and level tools – Additional grid and level overlays will appear while shooting.
• Control placement – The toggle that reveals all controls moves from the top‑right corner to the right of the shutter button.

Apple already offers a hardware‑style Camera Control button here, but the touchscreen‑based widget system should make adjustments even easier.

AI Integration

• Siri mode in Camera – A new Siri mode will let users access AI features directly from the Camera app, such as image search and on‑the‑fly text translation.
• AI‑powered editing – New photo‑editing tools powered by AI will be introduced see details.

Siri Updates

• Dynamic Island integration – Siri’s animated UI moves from the screen border to the Dynamic Island.
• Search or Ask interface – Replaces iOS’s existing Spotlight Search with a card‑styled results view that can transition into a chat interface for direct conversations.
• Standalone Siri app – Past chats will be viewable in a dedicated Siri app more info.

Other Reported Changes

• Safari – Updated start page.
• Weather – More detailed data display.
• Image Playground – Redesigned for simpler use.

WWDC 2026 is scheduled for June 8–12, so additional leaks are likely, but the camera overhaul appears to be one of the most significant non‑AI changes on the horizon.
