Apple Removes iTunes Movies and TV Shows Apps in tvOS 26.4
Source: MacRumors
Overview
With tvOS 26.4, Apple has removed the dedicated iTunes Movies and iTunes TV Shows apps that previously listed content available for purchase. Buying movies and TV shows is now done through the Apple TV app.
Background
- Apple began phasing out the iTunes Movies and iTunes TV Shows apps in 2023, redirecting users to the Apple TV app for purchases.
- The apps remained available only to provide instructions on where to find purchased content and to give access to the iTunes Wish List.
Wish List Changes
- The iPhone and iPad TV apps removed iTunes wishlists with the launch of iOS 17.2 and iPadOS 17.2, and tvOS 17.2 also eliminated wishlists.
- After customer complaints, wishlist options were briefly restored, but Apple announced the final removal of wishlists last week.
- Users who still have an iTunes Wish List received emails with links to migrate those lists to the Apple TV watchlist feature.
Audio Format Settings
Apple updated the Apple TV Audio Format settings in tvOS 26.4:
- Dolby Atmos immersive audio has been replaced with Spatial Audio.
- New options include converting to Dolby Digital 5.1, selecting Stereo Only, or enabling Auto mode.
- A Continuous Audio Connection option is now available for HDMI output.
Availability
tvOS 26.4 is currently available to developers and public beta testers, with a public release planned for spring.
