Apple Music adds AI‑transparency tags

Apple Music is introducing a new set of metadata fields that allow record labels and distributors to flag AI‑generated or AI‑assisted content when they upload it to the platform.

According to a report from Music Business Worldwide, Apple sent a newsletter to industry partners explaining how the new tags will be rolled out.

Metadata typically includes fields such as song title, album title, genre, and artist name. The new tags let distributors indicate whether AI was used in specific aspects of a track—artwork, music, composition (lyrics), or music video.

A Reddit user recently posted a mock‑up of a similar feature concept (see here). The approach is opt‑in, meaning it relies on labels or distributors to manually declare AI usage.

Spotify is pursuing a comparable strategy, as described in a TechCrunch article about its AI policy updates (read more).

Other platforms, such as Deezer, are experimenting with in‑house AI‑detection tools to flag AI‑generated content, though achieving high accuracy remains a challenge.

TechCrunch has reached out to Apple for additional details.
