Apple just released new AirPods Max 2 firmware

Last week Apple shipped new firmware for AirPods Pro 3, and today AirPods Max 2 have received a fresh firmware update.
New AirPods Max 2 firmware update now available
AirPods Max 2 owners, Apple has new firmware available to install today.
- Previous firmware version: build 8E251
- New release: 8E258
No details have been shared about what’s included in this latest firmware. Apple publishes AirPods firmware release notes on this page, but it has not yet been updated with the latest release details. Most firmware builds simply include “Bug fixes and other improvements,” which was also the description for the last AirPods Max 2 firmware release.
How to install AirPods Max firmware
Apple’s instructions for triggering an AirPods Max firmware update:
- Ensure your iPhone, iPad, or Mac is updated to the latest iOS, iPadOS, or macOS version, and that Bluetooth is on.
- Make sure your AirPods Max are connected via Bluetooth to your device.
- Connect your device to Wi‑Fi.
- Plug the charging cable into the bottom‑right earcup, then connect the other end to a USB charger or port.
- Keep your AirPods Max within Bluetooth range of your device and wait at least 30 minutes for the firmware to update.
- Reconnect your AirPods Max to your device.
- Check the firmware version again.
