Apple Home App Stops Working for Some Users as Update Now Required
Source: MacRumors
Background
In 2022, Apple introduced a new Home architecture that is “more reliable and efficient,” and support for the old architecture has now ended. Users who did not update the Home app by the February 10 deadline see the following message:
“You’re running an older version of Apple Home that is no longer supported. Update now to continue using the Home app with your Apple devices and other accessories.”
“The members of your home will also need to update on their devices.”
Apple warned that users who do not upgrade may experience issues with accessories and automations, or lose access to their smart home in the app entirely. They will also miss newer features such as robot‑vacuum support, as well as important security fixes and performance improvements.
How to Update the Home App
- Open the Home app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
- Tap or click the three dots in the upper‑right corner and select Home Settings.
- Tap or click Software Update.
- Tap or click Update Now, then follow the prompts. All homes you own are updated simultaneously.
If you see “This home and all accessories are up to date,” you are already on the current version and no further action is required.
System Requirements
The newer Apple Home architecture requires at least:
- iOS 16.2
- iPadOS 16.2
- macOS 13.1
- tvOS 16.2
- watchOS 9.2
