Overview

Apple unveiled the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, built on a new Apple‑designed Fusion Architecture that combines two dies into a single system‑on‑chip (SoC). Both chips feature an 18‑core CPU architecture with six high‑performance “super cores” and twelve new performance cores optimized for power efficiency, delivering up to a 30 % boost in CPU performance.

M5 Pro

  • CPU: Up to 18 cores (four more than the M4 Pro).
  • GPU: Next‑generation GPU with up to 20 cores.
  • Performance: The new CPU architecture improves multithreaded performance by up to 30 % compared to the M4 Pro.
  • Graphics: Features up to 40 GPU cores with a Neural Accelerator in each core, second‑generation dynamic caching, and hardware‑accelerated mesh shading. Graphics capabilities are up to 35 % better for ray‑tracing‑enabled apps than the M4 Pro and M4 Max.

M5 Max

  • CPU: 18‑core CPU.
  • GPU: Up to 40 cores.
  • Performance: Offers up to 15 % higher multithreaded performance compared to the M4 Max.

Availability

The new MacBook Pro equipped with these chips is available for pre‑order starting tomorrow.
