Partner Premier Tag – New Premier Status on the Terraform Registry
Building on the success of the Partner tag (originally introduced in our Terraform Partner Integration Program in 2022), we are excited to announce the launch of a new premier status on the Terraform Registry: the Partner Premier tag.
The creation of this new tier will ensure extended benefits for Terraform end‑users and customers:
- Partner Premier providers will support at least two of Terraform’s latest features – Terraform Search and Terraform Actions – in addition to the previously released ephemeral resources.
- At HashiConf 2025 we announced Terraform Search and Actions as new features that must be built directly into providers to offer preset operations that extend Terraform’s automation capabilities for common Day 2 tasks – bringing those previously external tasks into the Terraform pipeline.
To streamline the search process on the Registry, customers will be able to sort by the Partner Premier tag and see at a glance which providers offer Terraform Search, ephemeral‑resource capabilities, or Terraform Actions operations.
This new tier is designed to recognize and reward our technology partners who demonstrate the highest commitment to:
- Technical quality
- Security best practices
- Adoption of imperative, cutting‑edge Terraform provider features
The Partner Premier status gives customers peace of mind that providers adhere to security best practices, have ongoing support, and make internal components visible and verifiable.
The New Standard: Partner Premier Requirements
To qualify for the distinctive Partner Premier tag, technology partners must first meet all existing requirements for the original Partner tag. In addition, they must fulfill the following advanced technical and feature criteria:
| Category | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Technical | Include a Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) for the provider |
| Feature | Implement at least one of the following advanced features: |
| • Ephemeral resources (as a security best practice) | |
| • Terraform Search | |
| • Terraform Actions |
By integrating these requirements, all Partner Premier‑qualified providers will offer end‑users enhanced security, deeper control, and/or the ability to codify imperative workflows outside of the standard Create, Read, Update, Delete (CRUD) model.
Partner Premier Launch Partners
As infrastructure‑as‑code (IaC) matures into the backbone of the modern enterprise, Day 0 provisioning is no longer enough. The Partner Premier tag distinguishes providers that have moved beyond basic resource creation to solve more complex challenges in security, lifecycle management, and sovereignty.
We are proud to launch this standard alongside industry leaders who are redefining the boundaries of Terraform:
| Provider | Premier Capability |
|---|---|
| Scaleway | Orchestrate the full lifecycle beyond CRUD – server reboots, instance snapshots, database actions, VPN management |
| Cisco | Automate configuration saves and commits in both Cisco IOS and NX‑OS via Terraform Actions |
| Palo Alto Networks | Eliminate manual configuration pushes; perform PanOS commits directly within CI/CD pipelines |
| MongoDB | Securely provision Atlas credentials in‑memory, ensuring privileged infrastructure credentials never persist in Terraform state |
| Infoblox | Use Terraform Search to dynamically discover and consume existing IPAM/DNS records, bridging legacy inventory and IaC workflows |
| Rubrik | Enable real‑time discovery and automated protection of unmanaged data and backups |
| Mittwald | Trigger container‑native recreates and restarts natively from Terraform |
| Saviynt | Secure the bridge to identity‑governance (IGA) by eliminating credential shadowing for privileged connectors |
| Outscale | Manage enterprise‑class cloud resources with industrial‑grade reliability and security |
| 1Password | Retrieve sensitive items and credentials for infrastructure without persisting them in Terraform state |
| Ionos Cloud | Provide sovereignty‑first automation built for rigorous European data‑privacy and compliance standards |
| Sidero Labs | Achieve true end‑to‑end immutability for Kubernetes clusters by managing Talos OS through a declarative, state‑free workflow |
These Partner Premier providers transform Terraform from a deployment tool into a comprehensive lifecycle engine, ensuring every operational action is as secure, auditable, and automated as the initial build.
Exclusive Benefits for Premier Partners
Technology partners who achieve Partner Premier status unlock a new level of collaboration and support from HashiCorp, including:
- Co‑marketing support – inclusion in quarterly highlight blogs and other promotional opportunities
- Technical support and resources
- HashiCorp product‑roadmap sharing
- Access to exclusive HashiCorp run‑provider development workshops
- Design input into the future direction and evolution of the Terraform product line
Maintaining the Original Partner Tag
The existing Partner tag will continue to serve as the essential foundation for quality and partnership for HashiCorp technology partners. Earning this tag requires verification by a HashiCorp Alliances Manager and adherence to our strict, modern development lifecycle.
For Terraform providers
- Participation in the HashiCorp Technology Partner Program
- Building or upgrading existing providers on Terraform’s most recent plugin framework
- Requiring and passing Terraform plugin testing
- Implementing nightly testing via a GitHub Action
- Commitment to regularly updating the provider to fix issues and collaboratively engaging on joint customer escalations
For Terraform modules
Module quality is ensured through a varied set of standards focused on HashiCorp‑defined, best‑in‑class infrastructure‑as‑code principles, including:
- Clear documentation and usage examples
- Automated testing (unit, integration, and compliance)
- Versioning and change‑log management
- Security reviews and vulnerability scanning
Together, the Partner and Partner Premier tags provide a clear, trusted signal to Terraform users that the providers and modules they consume meet the highest standards of quality, security, and innovation.
