Urgent Call Indicator (Beta)

Android users will soon have an option to add an “urgent” indicator to their calls. When enabled, the indicator appears on the receiver’s incoming call screen and in the call history if the call isn’t answered.

How it works

  • The feature is part of the Phone by Google app’s Call Reason beta.
  • It requires Android 13 (or newer) and Phone app version 13.0.0 or later.
  • When a caller selects Urgent, the receiver sees a banner that reads:
Urgent – [Caller’s name] is calling
  • The call is also highlighted in the call log.

Google says the indicator helps convey the importance of a call without needing a separate message.

Availability

  • Currently limited to a small group of beta testers.
  • Google plans a broader rollout later this year.

Enabling the feature

  1. Open the Phone app.
  2. Tap the three‑dot menu.
  3. Go to Settings → Call Reason.
  4. Toggle Urgent on.
